Lachung means the ‘Small Pass’ (as per the name we thought that there be a ‘Big Pass’ will also there, Yes ‘Lachen’ is that Big Pass), Lachung is situated at an altitude of 8600 feet (2620 meters) and it’s 115kms from Gangtok (Capital of Sikkim).
Lachung have many attraction points for its travelers, reaching Lachung from Gangtok is easy and while planning your tour itinerary you should include 1 night in Gangtok than 1 night in Lachung and again 1 night in Gangtok as travel time between Lachung and Gangtok is around 5-6 hrs minimum, below are the major points to be cover in your upcoming Sikkim and Lachung trip:
Yumthang Valley : Yumthang valley is the main attraction point of Lachung, this beautiful valley boasts of its thick rhododendron picturesque place in North Sikkim with its forests and hot sulphur springs. It is a valley to 24 species which it rightly earns its name as ‘Valley of Flowers.’ The passing of rivers Teesta through it makes the paradise of the valley a place for nature lovers.
Lachung Monastery: This amazing and beautiful architectural Monastery is one of the key attraction points of Lachung and a favourite place of Buddhism followers, situated at more than 9000 feet and just 1hr drive from Lachung town.
Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary: Rhododendron is a large bush with large flowers which are usually pink, red, or purple.
And this sanctuary has more than 24 species of rhododendron shrubs, which are very large ranges of flora which is found at the places which includes Poppies, Rhododendrons, Primulas, Saxifrages, Gentians, Iris and are much more.
Yumesamdong (Zero Point) : Yumesamdong is also known as Zero Point and is nearly 26 kms from Lachung town. You must take an overnight stay in Lachung to visit Yumesamdong. It is the heaven which is contained places where you get the most charming view and people can enjoy snow capped Himalayan peaks. Beautiful flowers in this place. This is the place which is situated at the altitude of around 15000 feet above the sea level.

March to June – this is the best time to visit Lachung as the weather will be perfect for tourists with the clear views of the Himalayan range and other tourist points in Lachung.
July to Mid September – is the monsoon time there and due to heavy rain, it will be very difficult to reach there, and landslide issues are very common there during the monsoon, so it’s better to avoid this place during these months.
Mid-September to December – in these months weather will be good and travellers and easily visit there.
January & February – this is the winter time in Lachung and as its high altitude Lachung witness the high snowfall every year and due to heavy snowfall roads can be blocked there, so this is also not a good time to visit there.
Lachung By Air : Bagdogra is the nearest Airport for Lachung which is again 190 kms and will take 8hrs to reach Lachung.
Lachung By Train : NJP and Siliguri is the nearest Railway Stations for Lachung, these stations are around 191 kms from Lachung and will take 8hrs to reach there and if you don’t want to travel for 8hrs so you can take a night stay at Gangtok and next day you to proceed to Lachung.
Lachung by Road : Lachung is also connected by roads to his nearby cities, you can go to Lachung from Gangtok by cabs, also NJP station and Bagdogra airport by easily available private or sharing cabs for Lachung.
